Y5 Week Commencing 11th May

Welcome to Week 4!

How's everything going?! We're so pleased to be hearing from more of you, and getting to see what you've been up to! Thank you and keep it coming!

We are looking forward to catching up with some of you on Wednesday in our Zoom meetings. It will be a chance to catch up with your teacher, teaching assistant and class friends. We just ask that you treat it as you would a classroom, with respect and kindness laugh

Top Tip: Try to complete your Maths and English daily tasks in the morning. This way the rest of the day can be used to complete Sumdog challenges, chip away at your topic project or to get stuck into your reading.

Thank you so much for sharing your work with us - we're loving the work you're doing! Remember, if you need any help or have any questions, please email us at Year5@sholing-jun.co.uk or you can simply place a comment on the activity in Google Classroom.

We hope to hear from you soon!

Maths

From this week White Rose is no longer offering free access to their premium worksheets. Therefore, we are not providing this as a resource at the moment. We have applied for a subscription and are waiting for that to be confirmed. In the meantime, resources from BBC Bitesize have been uploaded for you to work through. Alternatively, you can use the maths workbooks given to you and attempt 4 pages (or whatever you would like to choose) as your activity until we have received confirmation of subscription.

White Rose is back!!

We now have a subscription for White Rose maths, so will be posting the worksheets from now on. You can access the videos via the link below and complete the attached worksheets. You are more than welcome to do some work in your CGP maths books too.

For this weeks lessons I have attached a fractions wall to support your learning.

Questions 1 -5 are suitable for for Year 5 in the Friday Family Challenge. However, why not challenge yourself, and your family, to complete all the questions.

English Tasks

This week you will begin planning the ending to your own version of Stormbreaker!

This Week's Topic Task

UNITED KINGDOM

This week’s topic is named ‘United Kingdom’. There are many activities for you to look at, from kings and queens to flags, mountains to monuments and from festivals to the Olympics.

Talking of the Olympics, I know a lot of you were either not around then or were watching if from your prams and push chairs, but you could always watch a video I have put on the resource centre. It’s called ‘A Golden Games’. I’ll challenge any parent to watch that without getting a bit teary eyed in places.

It really is a great watch if you love sport and PE so have a look!

It has also been requested that I set a challenge for this week so here it is:

One of the topic tasks set has been to design a flag. If I am sent 20 excellent examples of this by Friday (obviously from 20 different people) to: deputyhead@sholing-jun.co.uk  I will endure a three ice bucket misery. Fortunately, I will be judging if they are excellent or not! As usual, I will not be partaking in any water based punishments if the challenge is not met!

Good Luck!

I Have Finished My Learning For The Week! What Do I Do Now?

Well done on completing your fabulous learning this week! We are sure you have worked really hard! Any work you are proud of or want to show us please send it in as we would LOVE to see it!

If you have finished your Maths, English and Topic tasks for the week, see below for what else you can do:

  • We have SUMDOG competitions in Reading, Spelling and Maths for the week. They are either individual or team based so keep your eyes peeled!
  • Practice your multiplication knowledge or get quicker with TT Rockstars!
  • Practice your reading fluency by reading aloud to an adult.
  • Why not go onto YouTube and do PE with Joe or do a Cosmic Kids yoga video?
  • Go onto the mindfulness tab on the Home Learning page and practice a technique or teach it to someone else in your household
