My name is Jane Butler, Chair of Governors and I volunteered to become a governor because I wanted to be involved in the life of Sholing Junior School. I am a qualified teacher and have also been a teaching assistant. I feel passionately that school should be fun, challenging and rewarding; giving children the best start to their lifelong educational journey.
Being a governor is a great way to be involved and help shape the direction of the school. We are fortunate at Sholing to have an enthusiastic team of governors that is a healthy mix of parents, staff and members of our local community all of whom work hard to achieve high standards for our children.
Governors work with the headteacher and staff to ensure the best possible education for each and every child in the school. The Governing body has many legal responsibilities which include overseeing the budget, appointing staff, oversight of the curriculum, maintaining and developing the school premises, Health and Safety issues .Governors are all members of the local community, who are unpaid, they give hours of their time voluntarily to support the work of Sholing Juniors. The Full Governing Body and sub-committees meet at least every half term. We also have a Governors day once a term, when Governors visit the school.
